RANGEFINDER CAMERAS

RF system includes rangefinder cameras whose prototype was German Leica (being
in general first 35 mm camera in the world). These cameras were very popular up to
the 60s. Then they were less and less bought because of 35 mm SLR cameras. The
most known cameras of this kind were Leica, which was mentioned above and also
Contax and their postwar copies: Nikon, Kiev, Zorki. In spite of offensive of SLR
cameras and digital cameras, there are still some people taking photos with
rangefinder cameras. It's enough to see National Geographic publications
(Photography School). These cameras are smaller than SLR cameras, they are more
quiet and they do not stand out (they look like standard compact cameras) and offer
clear, interchangeable lenses, possibility of conscious manual lightening parameters
control and precise manual focus control. For long time I've personally considered such
cameras available in Poland (Kiev, Zorki, FED) as worse than SLR cameras and not my
interest. However, when I looked better into the matter, I appreciated their advantages
presented above. What is more, these cameras are really cheap in comparison with
Leica which is still produced. On the website I will describe chosen bodies, like e.g. Kiev
4AM and 4M, Zorki 4 and 4K, Zorki 6, FED 5B, Moskva 5, Werra. In addition I will
describe most of Russian and Ukrainian (Soviet) system lenses with M 39x1 thread
(Zorki, FED) and with lens mount Contax (Kiev), and also such additional accessories l
ike e.g. viewfinders.
